I discussed a bit about niche blogging in my last article, "Why Do You Want To Blog", and I wanted to further elaborate and point out a few niche's you may want to explore. Although it doesn't have to be, niche blogging is typically for profit. With that being said, if you really think about it, all blogs could be considered niche blogs, right?
Almost all blogs have a focal point and it's what you're blogging about. But niche blogs not only have a focal point they're profit driven. This is clear with marketing blogs. For example, you may see eBooks being offered on becoming a better marketer, recommended reads from an affiliate site or sponsor may be promoted, and you may even see pay-per-click links embedded in the articles.
Blogs like these are very "link embedded". Within any given post, you're navigated through the article or webpage with keywords encouraging you to click on an embedded link. That link leads you to another article or even another webpage where you'll get further information for what you were looking for. What's great about this form of blogging, is that, it brings together like-minded people with similar interests, further narrowing down the target audience. Your success will however be determined by how much of an expert you become in your niche. And the more knowledgeable you become the more useful the information you provide.
Although I won't go into more detail about how you can blog for profit, I want to point out a variety of niches you may want to consider blogging about. Here are 12 niches I consider popular at the moment.
Photo Blogging: With the explosion of Instagram, and similar sites such as PicPlz and PicYou, many people have since become self proclaimed photographers. Why wouldn't they create a photo blog to share their work. Some bloggers' photo blogs have even helped them to build a portfolio and do freelance work.
Jewelry Making: Have a knack to be a jewelry maker? Or perhaps you just want to learn. You're not alone. Many bloggers and even store owners have set up online boutiques displaying, promoting and selling their very own hand crafted jewelry. Are you crafty?
Mommy Bloggers:You're A mom and you want to share your experience with the world, become a mommy blogger. Mommy blogs are very popular, mainly, because one moms experience vary from another. Moms love sharing stories gushing about their kids but also the ugly truths about being a parent. Do you have any parenting tips to share?
Video Sharing: More and more video blogs are popping up. In the generation of short attention spans, short and funny videos are all the rave right now. Popular sites like FunnyorDie.com and WorldStarHipHop.com have become famous for comical relief. Do you have a load of videos you'd like to share?
Food Blogs: Wanna be a food critic? You're an aspiring chef? Why not blog about your favorite eats. You may even begin doing restaurant reviews. A growing and profitable niche I should note. And who doesn't like to eat?! Blog about it!
Beauty Blogs: Millions of women spend lots of money each year on beauty products they think will leave their skin glowing, hair shiny, looking ten years younger and waist slimmer. If you're into beauty products this may be the niche for you. I've seen blogs become popular from just one woman sharing her own beauty struggles. Do you want to journal your own beauty stories?
Fashion: Are you the next fashionista? Love fashion and want to blog about your favorite fashion trends? Perhaps you'd like to know where your favorite celeb got his/her outfit. Or perhaps whose the designer. Fashion blogging may be just right for you. Note, beauty and fashion blogs often go hand in hand.
Celebrity News/Gossip: As I've mentioned before I'm a celebrity entertainment blogger as well. Although, I admit, this niche is heavily saturated it's also profitable. People not only envy celebs, many are just as amused when they're lives are in shambles. Why? It's further affirmation that with all the fame, beauty, success, and riches they're just as messed up as the rest of us. Many people become obsessed with the celebrity lifestyle as well, making it difficult to tune them out.
Music/Movie Reviews: Love entertainment? This is a great niche if that's your thing. There's a large market for music and movie reviewers. The more knowledgeable you become the more respected you become. People may just listen to what you have to say. You may even get invites to concerts, with access to exclusive photos and interviews.
Love/Relationship/Dating: People spend millions of dollars a year on dating sites like matchmaker.com and eharmony.com to find that special someone. They also flock to blogs and websites to share and read all about matters of the heart. Providing great dating tips can quickly bring traffic to your site. After all, we all just want to be loved. This is also a very profitable niche.
Travel Blogs: Do you like to travel? Do you find excitement in discovering great travel deals? Then creating a travel blog may be right up your alley. You never know, helping others find great travel and exotic locations may even broaden your horizons.
Technology: Tech bloggers are very popular as well. They stay up to date with the latest gadgets and love to share with their readers. They're also great for explaining what new tech devices are good for and how to use them.
These niches are just several among a bucket list. I want to also note you must love what you decide to blog about. Having a passion for your niche will help in thinking of new article ideas. It's pretty hard to write about something you're not passionate about. It will deter you and your consistency as a blogger will begin to wane. And as a blogger writer's block is inevitable. Love what you do!
