What is Private Franchising? It is Nothing Someone Made It Up

The Federal Trade Commission has an obligation to the general public, their stated consumer education mission and to the over regulated franchising industry and the small business operators running Biz Ops to separate the two business models by way of legal definition. Any failure to completely separate them will trigger additional problems down the road and cause the current on-going process of rule review to continue, without any formalization for decades.

This of course is good for attorneys who make money on these ambiguities for lawsuits and great for Federal Trade Commission tenure and job security. A few also realize it could allow for additional travel budgets of governmental employees during these rule making processes on the taxpayers money. It would also trigger more time-out, "let's think about this one"-coffee breaks on various floors of the Federal Trade Commission's fully furnished 1970 desk style ambiance. However it is not good for consumers or industry and creates unleveled playing field on one hand and complex barriers to entry for start-up entrepreneurs with regional dominance and efficiencies, which lend them selves well to the franchise business model on the other. This is because Biz Op MLM salespeople are purporting that they as similar to franchised business, by using terms like 'Private Franchising' in their presentation.

These MLM business sell in coffee shops and public presentations, which would send chills down the spine of any compliant franchising executive or real franchisor. So then, what is a real franchisor? What is private franchising? What is a Business Opportunity? What is an MLM business? What is a hybrid or cross-breed of any of these combinations? How on Earth in laymen terms can the Federal Trade Commission explain this to us, so that we might explain the differences to consumers when asked. Where on the Federal Trade Commission website is there a place which describes all of them and the possible variations? Due to the introduction of the term "Private Franchising" in the interim between 1999 comments and 2004 evaluations of possible definition revisions by Federal Trade Commission it appears that the definition landscape in the real world is hyperspacing the definitional upgrades to the franchise rule in the wonderful world of bureaucracy. We should not kid ourselves into thinking that the latest FTC report or any subsequent changes now, will change anything in the actual market place as to the number of; non-existent fraud events in franchising. The number of fraud cases in franchising is basically nil as per Federal Trade Commission's own statements to congress. Yet the MLM crowd is manipulated truth by miss using the word franchising and that misrepresentation is damaging consumers. Think about it.

Selling and Making Money On eBay - The Top 5 eBay Selling Myths

Everybody wants to make money on eBay whether a small time seller or a eBay veteran. The amount of advice on how to do this is endless. The truth is a lot of the advice out there is false and can actually damage your business. These are the top five eBay myths:

Myth #1: Look At The What's Hot On eBay Page For Ideas Of What To Sell

Wrong. Unless you have a wholesale supplier of new PS3s, iPads, Gucci Handbags and other big-ticket items then this list is useless. Plus most of these hot items are selling for about 20% less than the MSRP. So you would have to have a very good supplier to turn a profit.

Myth #2: Drop Shipping Is An Easy Way To Make Money

What is drop shipping? First drop shipping is basically getting paid to sell someone else's item. You get a list of items that a company wants to sell and their wholesale prices. You chose ones you think you could make a profit on. You list them on eBay. If they sell they ship from the drop shipping Company's warehouse and you keep the difference between their price and yours. There are many problems with this one. Most importantly you have no control over what the drop shipper does, they may never ship the item or constantly have it on back order. The buyer will blame you and you will get the negative feedback. Problem number two, a lot of these items are cheap junk, that is why the drop shipper doesn't simply list them themselves because the majority will not sell.

Myth #3 You Can Find Inventory Using On-line Liquidation Auction Sites

Perhaps you could if you can find true liquidation items from a reputable company. What I've found is Companies selling defective or returned items for near MSRP. People preying on those who are desperate to make a quick buck. Whatever you do avoid liquidation.com, this popular site is a scam. Beware of big-ticket items on sites that offer no buyer protection.

Myth #4 You Can Build Your Business Around Garage Sales And Thrift Stores

Sure you can find some steals at these places but you have to know what you're looking for and sometimes you may leave empty-handed. For example many thrift stores have books for 0.99 cents it may sound like a good buy but only a few of those books will sell online knowing which ones is the key. Also you can sometimes find old electronics but they may work and may not. Only someone with the time and ability to repair them would want to buy them. The point is if you want many items you need a somewhat reliable source for products you can sell at a profit. While these are sources they aren't always reliable.

Myth #5 Sellers With Higher Feedback Can Get Higher Prices For Their Items

This is a myth perpetuated by eBay themselves they keep emphasizing that all sellers must have great feedback. Most buyers though know that eBay will pretty much side with them in any dispute so there is not much risk in buying from a seller with low or negative feedback. Price is still the determining factor for most eBay buyers. The lower the price the better.

Don't fall for these myths anything that sounds too easy probably is do research know your products calculate your profit margin and keeping listing.

Make a Load of Money in Storage Auctions

Whether you are looking for a job, on unemployment or currently working at a job that you detest, buying and selling storage units at auction is an opportunity for anyone that is looking for a new way to make very good money with very little work and investment.

This is what storage auction is all about: buying low and selling high. No other money-making scheme is better than that. You can make a lot of money fast with the least capital and even with a smattering of business knowledge or experience. Pick up your local newspaper and look in the back at the public notices during any given week and you will find many public notices about your local storage companies getting ready to auction off the contents of the units in their facilities.

Storage units sometimes go for under $100, sometimes they can go as high as a few thousand dollars, but you can easily get started making money with mini storage auctions for around $300. If you know how, it's your pennies on the dollar of the cost of the contents of the storage units. You can then sell the contents of the storage units for as much as five times of the amount you paid for. And do it fast.

This is the beauty of storage unit auctions. You can buy goods at incredibly cheap prices for the simple reason that their owners had no more use for them. Once you got the items, you can sell them for half of their current market value and still make big profits.

When you buy items at such low prices you can afford to sell them for half of their value and this allows you to move your inventory at a fast clip and make a profit pronto. In the process, the cash flow is steady such that you can buy more storage units until you build up your bankroll.

To get into the action, all you need to do is see where you can find the latest listing of storage auctions in your area. There are over 2 billion square feet of available storage rental space in the U.S. and growing. This means that more units will be subject to auction due to non-payment or abandonment.

The reality is that anyone can attend these auctions, but only a few know how to consistently profit from them.

Whether you are just bidding for yourself or putting a team together to bid and sell items you win at the storage auctions as a business, great things are in store for you. You can't lose in this nascent business because there is no competition in the true sense of the word and there is as yet no saturation to speak of.

A trick of the trade in this industry is the preference for the income class where a storage auction will take place. You look for auctions in middle-class suburbs where there is more promise of profit. There is no bargain in both lower and higher income areas.

Tricks to Use Blogs Effectively

Talented writers and artists found an easy medium to gain recognition - BLOGS! But there are some who struggle accessing and using them. A little patience, curiosity and willingness to search will make your blogging experience happy.

Click on all the options available on the page and read the instructions. Every page has detailed explanation on several features and how to operate them. The more you practice, the more comfortable you would grow with your blogging.

Here are some tips that people often forget to follow:

Simple yet Stylish:

Backdrop or the 'THEME' of the blog is the first thing that people would notice. Bloggers try to make it extravagant by choosing vibrant and loud themes. Unless it suites your writing skills there is no such necessity. If you are writing on a theme that is bold and overtly upbeat then a vibrant theme would be apt.

If you really want people to register your writing skills then keep your theme simple. More importantly if you are posting images or videos on the blogs then you should stick to basic and simple theme. This will keep the readers glued to your blog.

Sectioning Blogs:

Readers would appreciate organized blogs. Section your different works under a single blog. For instance you might write on food. Within this you can create different categories like vegetarian and non vegetarian, so on and so forth. There are ample blogs, but if you wish recognition you need to stand out. Make it simple and straightforward as much as you can.

Planning:

People love keeping a random or impromptu style. But planning is what would help you to ensure success. Updating your work on daily basis will project your interest and enthusiasm. If you continue with dedication, it will pay in the future. Over some time you would be allowed to add the option of monetizing your blog. This will help to earn some money.

Sharing Links:

There are various networking channels like Facebook, Google+ etc. Let your friends and relatives know about your work. You can send chats or messages that carries link of your blog. This will help you to build a community. The more visitors to your blog, the more popular would be your blog.

The tips might appear to be disciplined, but they are easy to follow. They will help you to set a blog and update it with ease. And yes do not forget to have fun. The blog is just like your personal diary. Pour your heart and brains out and let the world relish it.

Niche Blogging: Find Your Right Niche

I discussed a bit about niche blogging in my last article, "Why Do You Want To Blog", and I wanted to further elaborate and point out a few niche's you may want to explore. Although it doesn't have to be, niche blogging is typically for profit. With that being said, if you really think about it, all blogs could be considered niche blogs, right?

Almost all blogs have a focal point and it's what you're blogging about. But niche blogs not only have a focal point they're profit driven. This is clear with marketing blogs. For example, you may see eBooks being offered on becoming a better marketer, recommended reads from an affiliate site or sponsor may be promoted, and you may even see pay-per-click links embedded in the articles.

Blogs like these are very "link embedded". Within any given post, you're navigated through the article or webpage with keywords encouraging you to click on an embedded link. That link leads you to another article or even another webpage where you'll get further information for what you were looking for. What's great about this form of blogging, is that, it brings together like-minded people with similar interests, further narrowing down the target audience. Your success will however be determined by how much of an expert you become in your niche. And the more knowledgeable you become the more useful the information you provide.

Although I won't go into more detail about how you can blog for profit, I want to point out a variety of niches you may want to consider blogging about. Here are 12 niches I consider popular at the moment.

Photo Blogging: With the explosion of Instagram, and similar sites such as PicPlz and PicYou, many people have since become self proclaimed photographers. Why wouldn't they create a photo blog to share their work. Some bloggers' photo blogs have even helped them to build a portfolio and do freelance work.

Jewelry Making: Have a knack to be a jewelry maker? Or perhaps you just want to learn. You're not alone. Many bloggers and even store owners have set up online boutiques displaying, promoting and selling their very own hand crafted jewelry. Are you crafty?

Mommy Bloggers:You're A mom and you want to share your experience with the world, become a mommy blogger. Mommy blogs are very popular, mainly, because one moms experience vary from another. Moms love sharing stories gushing about their kids but also the ugly truths about being a parent. Do you have any parenting tips to share?

Video Sharing: More and more video blogs are popping up. In the generation of short attention spans, short and funny videos are all the rave right now. Popular sites like FunnyorDie.com and WorldStarHipHop.com have become famous for comical relief. Do you have a load of videos you'd like to share?

Food Blogs: Wanna be a food critic? You're an aspiring chef? Why not blog about your favorite eats. You may even begin doing restaurant reviews. A growing and profitable niche I should note. And who doesn't like to eat?! Blog about it!

Beauty Blogs: Millions of women spend lots of money each year on beauty products they think will leave their skin glowing, hair shiny, looking ten years younger and waist slimmer. If you're into beauty products this may be the niche for you. I've seen blogs become popular from just one woman sharing her own beauty struggles. Do you want to journal your own beauty stories?

Fashion: Are you the next fashionista? Love fashion and want to blog about your favorite fashion trends? Perhaps you'd like to know where your favorite celeb got his/her outfit. Or perhaps whose the designer. Fashion blogging may be just right for you. Note, beauty and fashion blogs often go hand in hand.

Celebrity News/Gossip: As I've mentioned before I'm a celebrity entertainment blogger as well. Although, I admit, this niche is heavily saturated it's also profitable. People not only envy celebs, many are just as amused when they're lives are in shambles. Why? It's further affirmation that with all the fame, beauty, success, and riches they're just as messed up as the rest of us. Many people become obsessed with the celebrity lifestyle as well, making it difficult to tune them out.

Music/Movie Reviews: Love entertainment? This is a great niche if that's your thing. There's a large market for music and movie reviewers. The more knowledgeable you become the more respected you become. People may just listen to what you have to say. You may even get invites to concerts, with access to exclusive photos and interviews.

Love/Relationship/Dating: People spend millions of dollars a year on dating sites like matchmaker.com and eharmony.com to find that special someone. They also flock to blogs and websites to share and read all about matters of the heart. Providing great dating tips can quickly bring traffic to your site. After all, we all just want to be loved. This is also a very profitable niche.

Travel Blogs: Do you like to travel? Do you find excitement in discovering great travel deals? Then creating a travel blog may be right up your alley. You never know, helping others find great travel and exotic locations may even broaden your horizons.

Technology: Tech bloggers are very popular as well. They stay up to date with the latest gadgets and love to share with their readers. They're also great for explaining what new tech devices are good for and how to use them.

These niches are just several among a bucket list. I want to also note you must love what you decide to blog about. Having a passion for your niche will help in thinking of new article ideas. It's pretty hard to write about something you're not passionate about. It will deter you and your consistency as a blogger will begin to wane. And as a blogger writer's block is inevitable. Love what you do!

Which niche will you blog about?

How to Change Large Shed Plans to Include A Shed Garage Door

You can install a shed garage door on your storage shed even if your large shed plans do not show it on the drawings. Even if you have an existing large shed you can modify the shed wall to install the new door. Larger sheds usually hold larger equipment; this is probably why you want to add a shed garage door. Being able to move bigger things in and out of the shed like motorcycles or lawn mowers is one of the great reasons to have a larger door on your shed. If you have a small shed with long walls and want to have better access you may be able to install bigger doors and make it easier to get in and out of the shed. The space requirements for an overhead panel door are about a foot on each side of the door and a foot above the door as well as space for the door to sit when it is in the open position. The following is a brief primer of shed garage door options, what is involved when sizing and installing the header beam and how to install the door.

Shed Door Options

The most common door being used as a shed garage door is the overhead panel door. It is made up of 4 rigid panels that are connected to each other by long hinges. The door rolls on tracks up out of the way. It is stored in the open position laying horizontal just under the shed ceiling. Panel doors can be bought as a insulated or non insulated. The second option is a roll up door that rolls up into a coil. It is much more flexible. They are made out of plastic or metal. They also roll up on tracks on either side of the door but the coil is stored directly above the door which allows easier hanging storage in the shed.

Installing the Header Beam

When an opening is created in a shed wall there needs to be a beam installed to hold the roof up over the opening. The bigger the opening the bigger the beam needs to be. Since most shed garage doors are six feet or wider the beams tend to be big enough to warrant using a beam sizing chart or calling the engineer who knows about beams to verify that it will hold the roof structure. The manufactures of beams have a special engineering department that provides free beam sizing information to customers. Contact them directly or through your local lumber salesman. You may need to send them a PDF of your large shed plans. To make sure they understand the exact application you will be using the beam for. Once you get the proper size of beam you can then purchase the beam.

How to Install the Door

This is really some tips on installing the door. You will most likely have the company you purchase the door from install it. The framed opening for roll up panel type doors is typically exactly the same size as the door. The rails on either side of the door attach to the boards holding up the beam. Because the opening is the same size as the door there is going to be a gap around the door. This gap is covered by trimming the door opening using 2x6 boards as a trim piece. This makes the opening 1 ½" smaller in the vertical direction and 3 inches smaller horizontally. It will give the door a nice finished look.

Using these tips you will be well on your way to update your large shed plans to accommodate the shed garage door. If you have designs for a 12x16 shed plan or similar large shed you can use these tips to add the ultimate in large shed accessories, the shed garage door.

A Guide to Garage Organization Systems

The main purpose of garages is to be able to park your cars. However, most people have this area full of items such as tools, toys and other miscellaneous items. If this is the case in your household, it is probably time to look into some garage organization systems.

In order to start organizing, you need to have a starting spot. The easiest way to do this is to ask yourself what is working, what is not working and why you are in this position. If your tools are put away in a big tool chest, then that is something that's working. Next, ask yourself what is not working. That answer should be obvious; that your garage has turned into a storage area. And then ask yourself why you are stuck in this position. That answer should be rather easy as well. The reason that you feel stuck is because you have no idea where to start and you feel a little overwhelmed.

To begin tackling the cleaning out process, you need to remember six words: sort, toss, assign, contain, keep it up and simplify. You have to remember to do each step one at a time and do it in order.

Step number one is to sort. You can sort items such as automotive stuff, cleaning supplies and children's toys. You should also have garage organization systems readily available for the sorting process. One box or shelf should be for donations to places such as the Salvation Army, another can be for trash and another for items that belong somewhere else in the house.

Most people do not like to throw away items because they feel that they may need it somewhere down the road. When you come across an item and you're not sure what to do with it, ask yourself if you really need it. Chances are you will never use the item again so you can either donate it or just toss it out. You also want to throw away anything you haven't used in the past six months to a year. Don't forget to include anything that is broken.

The assigning step is where you figure out where your items will go. This step is pretty easy as you can designate areas and add garage organization systems to those areas to store your automotive items, gardening equipment and sports equipment.

The containing process assists you in creating a functional space. Garage organization systems also have containers that you can use such as big bins, shelves, metal bands, pegboard and pegboard accessories and overhead suspension systems. Label everything. Also, once a year do a quick cleanup of the garage.

Simplifying has you making choices about what will stay and what will not stay. Simply ask yourself do you need this item, will you ever use the item again and do you have room for it. If the answer is no then toss it.

Filling Your Cornhole Bag: Plastic Pellets or Corn

Many cornhole game enthusiasts are having debate on whether it is better to fill the cornhole bag with corn or plastic pellets. Some are raving how it is more convenient and practical to use plastic pellets while others are die-hard fans of corn filled bags. A fan of corn-filled bags could easily bring up the fact that the game is called cornhole game and not plastic pellet game thus it is just right to use corn as bag fillings. Well, that argument could make a lot of sense but in this article, we will try to go deeper into the issue to know which between plastic pellet or corn is the best to use for the cornhole bean bag filling.

First of well, we have to consider the weather resistant factor. For this category, we will give the point to plastic pellets since it is more resistant to moisture. Corn could be more susceptible to developing mildew over period of time. When you leave your cornhole bag outside and rain starts to pour, there is a big tendency that morning dew will start working its way to the cornhole bag most especially if you didn't dry the bag quickly. In fact, the corn filled bag could swell up because of the water that you might need to sew it up after.

However, one advantage of using corn is that it breaks down good as time passes by. The cornhole bags are usually made from "Duck cloth" canvas that is usually stiff and tough when new. But once the canvas breaks down, the bag will become softer like your "favourite" T-shirt or sweat pants. Thus, it will become easier to play with. Although, you have to consider the changes in the weight of a corn filled bag because sometimes it breaks down too much. You will feel as if you are playing with a half-empty bag. That of course, becomes a downside for corn as filling.

You may read many technical disadvantages of using corn but when it comes to "feeling" which one is more comfortable and easy to play with, you could not argue that it is indeed a corn filled bag. Well, the dust that the corn filled bags produce makes the bags slide, which eventually makes it easier to play with. Just like the saying, "dust is a must" as there is something different about the dust of cornhole bag that coats your hands and clouds around the board when the bag hits it.

Now, it is totally your choice whether you want to choose plastic pellets or corn for your cornhole bag. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable playing with it. You could consider all the points covered by this article to be able to decide but you may want to go back thinking of the game's name. Besides, corn filled bag die hard supporters are right, the game is called cornhole game and not plastic pellets hole game.

Why Every Landlord Needs Landlord Insurance

You should never take for granted the need for landlord insurance. In this day and age it is important if you are a landlord to have this insurance, for your rented space. To buy such a policy would mean to protect and safeguard your property and interest, God forbid there is an untoward incident in the near future or if there is a disaster or calamity as well. Here as a landlord you would be compensated for by the proposed insurance company on the damages incurred.

The compensation for such an insurance policy would inadvertently depend on the kind of insurance you have purchased. As a landlord if you have put in more caution and security, with alarms and burglary aids at home, the property you rent out would not need high insurance premiums to be paid. If there is damage done to the property in the form of vandalism or burglary or tenant's damage causes then you as a landlord would be compensated for by this very insurance policy you take. For structural damages to the rented space, you will receive from the provider a compensation for the same as well.

The policy would have insurance meant for landlords, which is you, that would be more than what an homeowner's coverage can extend to. If the tenants cause damage to the property you own and have rented to them, then you have the full right to file for compensation for the same. Now while this is happening and depending on the disaster, if you need your landlord insurance to pay for the legal expenses, go ahead and do so, since your policy would reimburse you for the same as well.

As a landlord you would want to upgrade the systems and décor of your home from time to time, and there would be expenses for the same right, now there is nothing to worry, since you would be happy to know that your landlord insurance would take care of such expenses as well. Premiums for such insurance policies would be less if paid on an annual basis in comparison to those not paid otherwise. If you would like to have the best insurance coverage for your rented property, then it would be wonderful if you could go online and make a comparison on the free landlord insurance quotes from four to five major players. Check with these companies on what benefits and value added services the policies would give you as a landlord in the long run. Only when you are satisfied with the answers, then make an informed decision for the same.

Remember not everything would be covered under the landlord insurance scheme, for example, if there is unusual wear and tear to the property then that would not be reimbursed to you. Always pick up your homeowners and landlord insurance policies from the same insurance company or agent. Be sure to have flood and storm damages covered by the insurance package as well, since not all landlord insurance packages do so.

Four Building Blocks of a High Converting Squeeze Page

So let's talk about how to set up a high converting squeeze page, in other words creating squeeze page that closes anybody who is closable.

Before moving any further you must first understand that no matter how good your squeeze page is some people won't sign up and that is alright, just focus on the people who have signed up and you are on your way to success.

I have created a squeeze page that converts at whooping 92%, but in general any squeeze page that converts at 30-50% is considered as real nice.

Alright so let's take a look at the four building blocks of a high converting squeeze page:

1. A compelling headline- The headline is the first thing that the visitor sees when he lands upon your squeeze page; it's your time to capture his attention. If your headline fails to make your visitor feel that gut wrenching emotion then you are done. Best way to capture your visitor's attention is the Incongruence Plus time frame formula as it instantly grabs attention and also helps your offer look controversial. By Incongruent I mean anything that normally doesn't happen.

Do you want to see an example in action?

Here is an example of the formula in action:

"The Simple System That helped the former forklift driver employee earn $300 Every 60 minutes"

Now let's get into the formula:

Incongruence- It's not common for a forklift driver to make $300/hour, something is incongruent here, it breaks the pattern (pattern interrupt a common NLP knowledge) so it instantly grabs attention. It also looks a bit controversial. we humans are designed to pay attention to uncommon things, because it gets back to our tendency of survival, anything that is unusual triggers a part in our brain that checks whether it is a threat to our survival or not.

Time Frame- Every 60 minutes, it gives reader a specific time frame which increases their excitement levels.

2. A sub headline that gives clear idea about your offer - Your sub-headline should tell your visitors what they will they exactly get when they will sign up to your list, Here is an example "sign up below to get your free interview report or free video".

3. A very clear call to action- Remember the attention span of an online visitor is very small, he has got many things to get him distracted. So your squeeze page should have a very precise and clear call to action that tells your visitor what precise action he has to take to get the free gift. For example you can use something like "Click here to continue" instead of the plain submit button. You can even make your call to action better by using an arrow graphic. Some marketers have pointed out that by getting rid of the name capture section in the squeeze page they have even improved their conversion, if you want you might as well give it a try (just a thing I thought I should share).

4. Scarcity- It is a psychological fact that people won't take action until they have a strong reason to, and as proven by Robert Cialdini scarcity is a very powerful motivator that is present in every human being alive.

We don't want to lose things. So make your offer scarce, make your visitors feel that they might lose something precious if they don't take action now. You can do that by simple putting something like "offer available till (put the date here)" in your headline or sub-headline.

So there you have it the 4 building blocks of every successful squeeze page, virtually every successful squeeze page has these 4 elements. Now you too have the knowledge to make a very high converting squeeze pages and build a highly targeted list very quickly.

The Curse of Having a Common Name on Social Networks

If you have a unique name then you can easily be found on most social networks or through a Google Search, but if you have a very common name, then "good luck" as the search results will literally bury you under 100s of others with the same name. There may be more than a 100 others ahead of you even on LinkedIn, Facebook, or any other social online network, and that can be a real challenge if you are self-employed or perhaps, unemployed and looking for work.

Indeed, with a somewhat unique name myself, I've never been challenged by this, but I've heard horror stories. Okay so, let's talk.

The other day, someone had contacted me to work on a project, and it was someone who I didn't know, but they told me they were really good at what they did, and that we should form some sort of partnership, and move ahead on the project right away. I gave it some thought, and then I decided to go online and see if the person was for real. Turns out they had a very common name, and I couldn't tell exactly who they were on all the different social networks.

In fact, they were also from a large city, and there where many people from that large city with the same name, and also folks who had been involved in the same industry, with somewhat similar background from what the individual told me. Since I didn't know very much, I couldn't verify any of it. Because of who I am I can't just do business with anyone, nor would I want too, and I should know who I'm dealing with, I don't want my reputation tarnished, as I've worked far too hard over the years, to be involved with any shenanigans.

Indeed, I've been burned a few times, as I'm sure anyone else that has done business with folks on the Internet has. It kind of goes with the territory, in since you are not meeting face-to-face, you kind of have to play it by ear anytime you are collaborating. Therefore, in this particular case I was quite hesitant in doing business with the individual, strictly based on what he had written on his own website, and what he had told me in an e-mail.

Eventually, I decided to confront him on the issue, and let him know that I was weary, had been burned before, and I didn't know him from Adam, that we'd never met, or done business. He then sent me to his social networking site, the correct page, and I read it, and felt a little more comfortable. Of course, just like his website, people can write anything they want, and I still don't even know if the person he was claiming to be was actually him, or if the resume he had posted on LinkedIn is legitimate.

Indeed, he had the curse of having a common name, and being drowned out by everyone else with the same name on the various popular social networks. Because I had a question in my mind as to his authenticity, it was harder for me to break that prejudgment even once I had the correct information. Do you see how this could be a problem to you in your business if you have a common name? Please consider all this and think on it.

How a Harness Horse Can Help You Win at the Dog Track

Off Keel doesn't owe me any money. I've played this 11 yr old grey gelding pacer for years and seen him cross the wire first in a good number of his races. However, there are times when he's not a good bet, although people still play him then. Not me. I know when he's not likely to come in and I lay off in those races. Even when he was at his peak, there were some situations when his post position or the class of the race put him at a disadvantage. That was when I watched the race and - more times than not - he finished out of the money.

I use the Trackmaster™ harness programs and highly recommend that you do too if you play the harness races. I think their class ratings are better than the on-track programs and they give you so much more information. But back to Off Keel and how he can help with greyhound handicapping... This year, Off Keel has been running well at a class rating of up to 75. That's the CR of the race, not his speed rating or class rating in the race.

When he gets up over a 75 CR, he's a lot less likely to come in. In fact, he hasn't won above that level since May 5th. Another thing that has a big effect on whether or not he comes in is post position. He runs at half mile tracks in Bangor and Scarborough, both of which favor the horse from the 1 through the 5, like most half-mile tracks. Put him outside the 5 post, and he doesn't win.

Harness fans remember that Off Keel was a very good horse when he was younger. They know that he's still a horse to be reckoned with now. But they don't remember or don't know the information about class rating and post position, so they bet on him no matter the class of the race or his post position. Then he doesn't come in and they go off him and he slides down to a CR 75 race and his odds are good and I have him and he wins.

There are a few other horses that are good bets at times and bad bets at other times at the local tracks and at the simulcast tracks too. I keep a list and play them when they're in a favorable situation. I do the same thing with dogs and you can do it too.

It's a little harder, because most greyhound programs don't have class ratings so you have to use grade. When you're handicapping, notice dogs that are always moving up into a higher grade, but never win in that grade. That's their class ceiling just like a CR 75 is Off Keel's class ceiling, this season anyway. Notice dogs who never come in when they're in certain post positions, but do come in when they're in other post positions.

Keep a list and you'll notice that the more you look for these dogs, the more you'll be able to pick them out. They're spot plays, of course, because they have a very good chance of coming in because of a certain situation. Spot plays are my favorite way to make money at the dog track and at the horse track too. In fact, I like them so much that I'm writing a book all about spot plays at the greyhound, thoroughbred and harness tracks. It should be out in about six weeks, if I can lay off playing the races long enough to finish it.

Greyhound Handicapping - Should You Play Route Races?

In my opinion, route races can give you the best return for your handicapping buck. While there aren't as many of them as there are sprint races, this isn't necessarily a disadvantage. Most bettors tend to treat them the same way as sprints, and handicap them that way. While there are some bettors who just skip them and turn the page to the next 5/16ths distance race.

I love the longer races. From 3/8ths all the way up to the marathon length races, I've found value galore. Of course, there are a few things that you have to keep in mind when you're handicapping this length race. For one thing, early speed, while it is still important, isn't the huge factor that it is in shorter races. There's more time for closers to get in at the wire. There's more room for dogs to maneuver and get the position they need to win, and this can mean that dogs that get into trouble in sprints, manage to avoid it and hit the board in longer races.

Another reason that I love sprints is that, because there ARE fewer of them, it's easier to follow the dogs who are true routers. At some points in my handicapping life, I've actually saved every 3/8ths mile race page, stapled them together and referred to them when I handicap each program. It's pretty easy to see who's moving up or down in grade, and who can beat who. After all, many of the same dogs compete against each other, race after race.

Of course, there are some dogs, although not that many, who seem to be able to move between short and long races with no problem. These are the dogs you should keep a list of, because people forget that these dogs are multi-talented. They see that a dog has been running in sprints and now it's in a route and they can't see that it's ever won at the longer distance, so they don't play it.

But if you've done your homework, and know that this dog has won at this distance in the past, you're way ahead of the casual player, who only knows what the last six races in the program tell him. This is why it's good to make notes about the dogs and review them every so often. Things change and you have to keep reviewing the results and the dogs that are in different stages of their careers so that you're on top of the changes.

So, if you've never been a fan of the distance races, maybe you should take a second look. Consider following them for a while and see how you do. Look at the top dogs for this type of race in the stats and also notice which kennels have the best dogs for them. Some kennels seem to specialize in dogs who can win at the longer distances. After all, anything that can give you an edge over the crowd is a plus, and specializing in one type of race to the point where you know it in-depth gives you a huge advantage over the people who don't even try to figure it out.
